00 Welcome back to another episode of Careful Boys. Today we have a guest that you guys all definitely know. You've seen her many, many times. We have Raina Huang, competitive eater, content creator, [applause and cheering] probably I would say like the leading creator in competitive eating. Uh within three freaking years, you've grown like across all platforms like almost 10 mil. >> Wow. >> Thank you. I appreciate that. >> That's crazy. within 3 years. >> How do we grow a 10 mil? That's what I need to know. [laughter] >> We've seen you for so long. Um, followed your journey. You've done so many different eating contests and then started doing lots of uh I feel like you you're one of the first people that's in competitive eating that I've ever seen just do a bunch of stuff like you just do all of it. >> I think I have developed over the years rather than just strictly eating to be
51 more of a personality. So that's why I can show different parts of myself and I feel like that's what people recently have been resonating to because they just see that um I radiate happiness and joy in what I do. >> Yeah. So it's not just about the food for you. >> No, but of course I love food but you know it my life is not just food you know like you see on social media I have so many other interests. >> Can I ask you a personal question even though I just met you? >> Yeah. >> So when I eat a lot >> Mhm. >> I take like the biggest s████. [laughter] Do you like ████ your ████ brains out after you eat a ████ ton of food? >> That's true. How do you eat all that? >> Yes, >> you do, right? [laughter] >> Hell yeah. >> Imagine she's like, "No, never." >> No, because uh I forgot what it was. Like we had um it was one of those weekends where there's like two or three family gatherings that we had to go through >> and then you can't say no to food and
41 then you know there's always just constant food. So I eat a ████ ton, way more than I ever eat across three days. And I remember coming back home and I took the biggest, you know, when the s███'s so big it comes out of the water. You ever had those? So I was like, it came out of the water and my my son's named Ta. And I was like, Ta, you want to see something cool? >> You had to show him. >> Wait, your son? >> My son. My son. So I wanted you showed your son. >> So I wanted to show him cuz he likes nasty ████ And then my wife hears it. My wife hears me yelling from OUT OF THE out of the bathroom. My wife goes, "You better not be showing him your poop. And then he goes and he he's like, "Yeah, I want to see." And so he comes and I showed him. He goes like, "Whoa." [laughter] >> Well, that escalated quickly. >> So yours looks like that, too. >> Not all the time. >> Not all the time. I just want to make sure. >> Wait, wait, what do you mean your son
31 likes nasty ████ >> Like if there was a >> son. Sorry. >> Uh oh my god. >> Like if there's like a bug that's like crushed by a brick or something or like or like roadkill, like there's guts on the floor. He just likes that stuff. Do do you how easily do you lose your appetite? >> Me? >> Yeah. Like if you hear something like this, does that make you not want to eat for a few days? >> No, I'm fine. I am pretty immune to a lot of weird. I'm probably the weirdest person in my mind. >> Really? So, you might just you might be as demented as we are. [laughter] >> Oh, yes. >> Okay, good. What got you into the game of competitive uh like food eating? Well, I've always wanted to be um [snorts] an entertainer. You know, before eating, I did singing and modeling and um you know, a lot a lot of other things. Did gaming, I did cooking, all these type of videos. And then one
22 day, somebody told me, "Go try a food challenge." I was like, "What is this?" You know, and then my first ever food challenge was a 4-B burrito. And I ate that in six minutes. And >> yeah, it was just >> You found out you had that talent then and there. >> But I've just always eaten a lot all my life. I just didn't think it was like abnormal. What? Can you show me like what is a physical size of a 4 pound burrito? >> I would say it's equivalent to maybe three triple AAA burritos. >> Oh my god. [clears throat] >> Six minutes. >> Jesus. Three of those. >> Yeah. So, so that video took off and I was like, I guess people like to watch me eat. So, and that was the time when mukbang and everything started getting popularity. >> So, it just kind of like added on to like that phase of viralness, you know, and I just got lucky at the right time. >> Did you get an inkling of this as a kid? Like your mom's like, "What? You're eating 40 lollipops?" >> No. [laughter]
12 No. So, I mean, coming from Asian family, you know how we are with food. So, it's just constant food after food after food. So, >> finish your food. Finish your food. >> Yeah. They never really complained about how much I ate. They just fed me more. And then I that's why I always thought I guess this is just a normal amount that people eat. And then when I was with co-workers who are not Asian, they were like, "Girl, you eat a lot." I'm like, "Really? This is like normal to me? >> What the your metabolism must be crazy?" It is. It's okay. I'm still human. I still have to work out a lot. And the first year of doing competitive eating, I gained 20 pounds almost immediately. >> Oh, wow. >> Oh. >> When you were like a teenager with your like circle of friends, were you already like speed eating and eating lots of amounts and they were just like, "Do Raina, do your thing where you just eat everything." >> That wasn't your reputation at all when you were younger? >> Uh, I was normal also in school. I I was a loner in school. I I don't even
02 remember having friends, honestly. I was a fat kid. Okay. >> Maybe you ate all your friends. [laughter] >> Hey yo. >> Uh, no. But I remember the school lunches just one wouldn't satisfy me. So I would I would usually buy like two lunches or something just to like now I'm good. >> Oh dang. Okay. >> That's crazy. >> I I I thought like if that was something that you had as a talent in you the your whole life that would have been like a party trick growing up. >> No. And then when you eat so much, is it like uh is it like you got to push yourself to your limits or is it just like this is just how much I eat and it just feels like nothing? >> Uh it depends. I mean, I can still have quote unquote normal meals and still be fine. Um but I I have like levels like where I know I'll be okay with this amount of food and I know my limits basically.
52 >> Yeah. So like I would say 56 pounds is like comfortable like if I have >> comfortable. >> That is comfortable. Yeah. And then like I I know how to like talk to people after, interact afterwards. And then I know my absolute max is like 13 lbs. >> Holy ████ >> But I don't want to do that like ever. But I know that's my max. >> Oh my god. >> You ever tried um what is it called? Is it called Cho Nab? The sumo wrestlers. >> Yes. >> You ever try to challenge a sumo wrestler? >> I have videos on that. Yes. >> You did? Who won? >> Me, >> dude. ████ That's crazy. against a sumo wrestler. >> Not a legit Japanese one, but yes, they are sumo wrestlers. Yeah. >> And then afterwards, your toilet was full. [laughter] >> Doesn't happen all the time. Unless this is like a lot of meat or something. >> So, when you're on a daily, right, like
44 when you eat like a regular person portion or whatever, um does it still satisfy you like like you feel like okay, you know, or like you know how like some people they they need to eat till they feel full? I have a very good um mind over matter kind of thing. So when I need a detox and I need to like feel full, eating just enough is totally fine. >> So what's just enough for you? >> I I don't know. Just I have videos like two chicken breasts and a side of veggies. >> Really? Just like bodybuilder style? >> That's what I've been doing recently. >> Oh, cool. So like when you're off season or whatever, not competing, then >> I eat very clean. I eat fruits and very clean and I do not do that all the time. Yeah. >> Do you think you breathe more than the regular person? Like [snorts] you just need twice the air. >> Um well, you know what? I've uh I've done a lot of swimming and I played a
35 lot of instruments growing up. So maybe I have better breath control. >> Yeah. >> Well, you swam competitively. >> Not competitively, but I did swim a lot. Yeah. >> Just as a kid. >> Yeah. Just for fun and exercise. Yeah. >> Competitive breathing. [laughter] >> No, I can hold my breath for 2 minutes at least. That's way long. Two minutes >> at least. >> Yeah. >> Two minutes is long, dude. What the heck? >> Because like >> that's like a Navy Seal. That's crazy. >> When when I do something, I get like very competitive in it. >> Yeah. I remember like my grandpa was like teaching me swimming and you know, like we were at the uh gym pool or whatever and I see other people like way older than me training and stuff, I would just like be on the side and like compare myself to them, you know, and just be very competitive in that way. Yeah. >> Okay. You've always been competitive like that? >> Yes. You play a lot of video games. >> That's awesome. >> Do you have like um Oh, yeah. You play League of Legends, huh?
25 >> Yeah. >> Do you have like um when you do like an eating contest and you don't particularly like the food? Are you still able to like eat a lot of it? >> Again, that is mind over matter. So, you would just honestly I don't even think about it. I just try to get it down as fast as I can >> cuz just it's just like mush at that point. I just like >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Because I remember you were saying that you don't particularly like cheese. >> No. But you've had so many pizza. You have a Shakys commercial. >> Yeah. >> That's hilarious. [laughter] >> Yes. >> Yeah. I don't like cheese. >> He says cheese is stinky. >> Um, no. I'm lactose intolerant and it feels fatty and I've never really liked cheese growing up. So, >> my kid hates cheese and so weird to me. But he likes pizza, but he only gets hamburgers. >> Uh, I thought he would love macaroni cheese, but he doesn't like the cheese
15 part. Doesn't like quesadillas. >> Mhm. No quesadillas. >> Anything with cheese doesn't like >> I I can relate. I don't like cheese like that either. >> I love cheese. >> I just have to suffer through the lactose. >> Can I show Can I show them your shakies commercial so we can celebrate it together cuz it's pretty cool that you did this. >> Thank you. >> Look at this. We used to do all you can eat shakys. >> This is uh this is Raina's Shakys commercial. It's so cool. >> Shakys [music] feed 44 for feast feeds the whole family or a championship speed eater. Did you actually eat that? That's crazy. 7 seconds. >> That's dope, right? >> No [laughter] matter how you family, >> I I sick. >> Thank you. >> That's so sick. >> Thank you. It's not seven. It was second left or like 7 minutes. I don't know what they did, but it was a weird thing. >> That's such a cool commercial. >> That's so cool that you're like the face
06 of competitive. >> Your food looks perfect though. Did they give you like a prop thing and then like >> was it like fake pizza? It wasn't fake pizza, but they were constantly making new ones and new ones and refilling the sodas and >> so it was real. >> Yeah. >> Oh, wow. So, you you ate more pizza than what was shown on the thing cuz you had to do multiple takes or >> uh Well, I Well, it like I I ate in like what I needed to, but I mean, we had a lunch break. It it was like a 7hour shoot for 30 seconds, you know? I was like, you know, I saw this. I was like, >> that's all the footage they used? That's great. Dang, >> I ate all that pizza for this. [laughter] >> Yeah. >> What's your favorite food? >> Oh, dumplings. >> Oh, really? >> Yeah. >> Any specific style? Like >> pork and leak. >> Pork and leak. Like a like northern Chinese style like uh where it's like a
56 >> th like a thicker >> Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. >> Thicker uh thicker skin. >> Yeah. >> Oh, okay. Where's your favorite dumpling spot in the whole white universe? >> Uh it's not any restaurant. It would be for my mom. >> For real? >> Yeah. We grew up making dumplings all the time, so it might not even be like the best per se, but it's just something I'm very used to. And it's a very like homey meal like um you know, I remember she just keep wrapping for me. She wrapped really fast. So we just made dumplings all the time growing up. >> My mom made dumplings too, but they're nasty [laughter] >> and she doesn't understand like uh you know when you eat things there's like mouth feel. So she makes it I think to save time. So, with the same amount of materials, if she could make like, let's say, 100 dumplings, >> she'll just make like 30 big ass ones. [laughter] >> Kid, you're just trying to you're just trying to stuff it. It's not even like good cuz there's way too much skin to
47 filling. You're like every single one is like stuffing a full McDonald's apple pie in your mouth and you're like, >> "Wait, what?" >> So, it's like those Russian ones where it's like this big. >> It's big as ████ >> Did she Did she put creative ingredients in it, too? Like how she >> Yeah. Her ████ own cuz she's vegetarian. Was it cooked all the way? >> Yeah, it's cooked all the way, but it's cuz you boil it, but it's like has like a wood ear vermicelli cuz it's vegetarian. So, it's like all kinds of like >> Oh, dude. >> nonmeat vegetable and it's ████ huge. >> I feel like every Asian kid has a great memory of making dumplings with the whole family. And this fool has a nightmare. >> It's like [laughter] he just like I don't want to make dumplings. >> I did like making them though. >> Oh, okay. You know, you have like it's like almost most almost most of assembly line >> and then someone puts the water and then you like >> make the little crinkles and you put it to the side.
37 [laughter] >> What's uh denton in your like rating? >> I hate dentai fun. >> What? What' you say, ████ [laughter] >> From people that are like hardcore into it, they're like that s███'s just too mainstream. It's not. And that's what I keep hearing. But I'm like is it like too whitewashed? What is it? >> It the skin is too thin for me. Well, the sha bow skin is dead. >> Yeah. Uh the the the dishes are just so mediocre to me. It's so mid. And now Yes. It's very just McDonald'sized. >> It is. It is. It is. Yeah. >> Yeah. It's like Mc Dumplings now, huh? But if they sponsor you, you probably love them, huh? [laughter] >> No. No, I wouldn't. I They They are >> What the hell? You got morals? ANYBODY THAT SPONSORED MY She's in a position now where she can pick and choose. For sure. Yeah. Yeah. You know, I should have done more research. I didn't know
27 how unhinged he was. [laughter] >> Oh, dude. >> If my mom gave me a million dollars on Oh, she had the best dumplings. [laughter] >> This video is brought to you by Lilian's Dumplings. If she paid you to say they were good. >> Vegetarian dumplings. Your own mom. >> If she made frozen dumplings, there'd literally be like four dumplings in a bag. [laughter] That's how big they were. >> Yo, man. She hasn't come out with a cookbook. We got to make We got to make Lil Lillian's vegetarian. >> No, we should see how many Raina can eat >> of your mom's. She probably vomit off of one bite. >> She just like changed careers. >> I I like vegetarian dumplings, though. >> You do? >> Yeah, I love vegetarian. >> But her his mom finds a way to make food horrible. >> Yeah, bro. >> Like I don't She goes out of her way to make >> Rainer. That's your real food challenge. >> Bart's mom's cooking. [laughter]
17 >> She used to make me these sandwiches. It's like avocado. >> Uhhuh. and then wrapped in seaweed. >> Uhhuh. >> And then she puts it in between two bread and then the bread is like like rye with like walnuts in it. [laughter] >> And there's no salt, >> you know. That actually sounds really appetizing. >> Really? >> Yes. >> Dang. My mom had >> I love like healthy bread and I love seaweed and avocado and I like no salt. When I do burger challenges, I tell them no salt. >> Wo. Because well one it's also a good strat for challenges because you don't need that much salt adding up but when I do order normally I do ask to like fries no salt burger no salt. I don't like salt. >> I see. Okay. Okay dude you you might have found the one person that'll give five stars to your >> I think my mom will love you. She like >> see that's a real kid. [laughter]
07 >> Are you Chinese? >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. >> Okay. >> Are you Taiwanese? >> I am Chinese but my >> I'm from Trenzo. So it's like this is Taiwan and this is Chenzo. So it's like the the dialect the culture is very like similar. >> Very similar. Oh. >> Oh okay. >> So you guys speak like >> Okay. It's similar to like Taiwanese too. Yeah. Yeah. >> Yeah. So all the J Cho songs I understand. >> Yeah. >> Like that those two areas and then the other one Fuken they all speak like a >> That's where J Chao is from. He's from Taiwan. >> Taiwan. >> Oh okay. >> But then it's the dialects are so similar. >> Ah >> the Taiwanese and it's like all like very very very similar. They understand each other cuz it's different from Mandarin. >> Well, thanks for uh that's episode one of Raina. We're going to uh be talking about her dating life next. So, make sure you guys check the next video. >> Oo. Oh man.
